Guitarist singer looking to form rock metal band

Hi, I'm a decent guitarist (currently studying for grade 8, I also teach guitar) looking for people to start a band with. I can also sing to a very high standard.

Probably the best thing for me to do is name some bands I like, so here goes:

Opeth, Dream Theater/John Petrucci, Corrosion of Conformity, Anthrax, Devin Townsend, early Queen (their 70s stuff), Steve Vai, Extreme/Nuno Bettencourt, Cynic, Arcturus, various other Scandinavian metal bands, a few black metal/death metal bands... and a load of other stuff, but I don't want this to turn into an essay.

I want to do something that is generally rock/metal-sounding, and probably a bit progressive, but I'm happy to mix together various styles within that category, it's far more interesting that way.

I'm only interested in working with people who are really keen, and who care about the music more than all the other crap. I'm not interested in fashion or looking cool or getting all the girls. I'm 34 and married, and doing this for the music.

I live in Durham but would be willing to travel a bit to work with the right band/musicians - so Newcastle wouldn't be too far, for instance. Obviously a lot of collaboration can happen at a distance, what with the Internet and Cubase and whatever.
