Purpose of job:
I am a young disabled man and currently living at home with my parents and attending college during the week. I am looking to employ a personal assistant(s) to enable me to access activities and assist me with some personal care tasks. I am very independent and it is important to me that my personal assistant respects my role as their employer and is able to work under my direction.

Post 1:
You will need to be available on Friday mornings 9am – 11am to assist me with personal care and also for a period of five hours one day per week for doing activities. More about the role:

Personal Care
- Enter my bedroom to wake me up with a good morning and most
likely a hot drink.
- You will check my ventilator which I have been using
overnight and switch it off.
- You will then assist me with washing, toileting and dressing.
- You will assist me into my wheelchair.
- You will help me to prepare my breakfast or fix me another
hot drink.
- You will make my bed and wash my breakfast dishes.

Activities
- You will be driving my adapted vehicle.
- You will assist me with transfers in and out of the vehicle.
- We will go to places of my choice including the Metro Centre
where I like to meet my friends, accompany me to the pub or
on occasion, come with me to see Newcastle United play.

Post 2:
I play for a wheelchair football team and this takes me up and down the country to play in tournaments. This is usually 5 times per year between October and May. You would be my main source of support over the weekend and I will need assistance with the following:

- You will be driving my adapted vehicle.
- You will assist me with transfers in and out of the vehicle.
- You will assist me with all of my personal care, incl.
washing, dressing, toileting and getting in and out of bed.
- You will be sharing a hotel room with me because I may need
to be turned during the night.
- You will accompany me during the day to the tournament.
- You will have regular breaks and free time.

Training:
There are no formal qualifications required to do this job; for the most part the tasks and assistance involved can be learned through the personal assistant and I working together.

This post is also subject to a satisfactory Enhanced Criminal Records Bureau check, which will be carried out only if you are offered the post.
