Hours:
Post 1: 7 hours per week.
Post 2: Up to 5 weekends away per year (Fri Sun).

Rates of Pay: £8.00 per hour, excluding breaks (Post 1 & 2).
£50.00 per Overnight (Post 2).
Purpose of job:
I am a young disabled man and currently living at home with my parents and attending college during the week. I am looking to employ a personal assistant(s) to enable me to access activities and assist me with some personal care tasks. I am very independent and it is important to me that my personal assistant respects my role as their employer and is able to work under my direction.
Post 1:
You will need to be available on Friday mornings 9am 11am to assist me with personal care and also for a period of five hours one day per week for doing activities. More about the role:
Personal Care
- Enter my bedroom to wake me up with a good morning and most
likely a hot drink.
- You will check my ventilator which I have been using
overnight and switch it off.
- You will then assist me with washing, toileting and dressing.
- You will assist me into my wheelchair.
- You will help me to prepare my breakfast or fix me another
hot drink.
- You will make my bed and wash my breakfast dishes.
Activities
- You will be driving my adapted vehicle.
- You will assist me with transfers in and out of the vehicle.
- We will go to places of my choice including the Metro Centre
where I like to meet my friends, accompany me to the pub or
on occasion, come with me to see Newcastle United play.
Post 2:
I play for a wheelchair football team and this takes me up and down the country to play in tournaments. This is usually 5 times per year between October and May. You would be my main source of support over the weekend and I will need assistance with the following:
- You will be driving my adapted vehicle.
- You will assist me with transfers in and out of the vehicle.
- You will assist me with all of my personal care, incl.
washing, dressing, toileting and getting in and out of bed.
- You will be sharing a hotel room with me because I may need
to be turned during the night.
- You will accompany me during the day to the tournament.
- You will have regular breaks and free time.
Training:
There are no formal qualifications required to do this job; for the most part the tasks and assistance involved can be learned through the personal assistant and I working together.
This post is also subject to a satisfactory Enhanced Criminal Records Bureau check, which will be carried out only if you are offered the post.
Person Specification
To be my personal assistant you should be:
able to drive and willing to drive my adapted vehicle.
male or female.
interested in Sport.
energetic and enthusiastic.
open-minded.
reliable.
punctual.
like dogs.
sociable and friendly.
aware of and have some understanding of disability.
experience in a similar role is preferred but training will
be provided.
willing to do personal care tasks.
flexible.
able to commit yourself to at least one months notice
before leaving the job, except in extreme circumstances.
able to commence in post in June 2008.
