My name's Rob, I’m a pianist, and I need a lady singer, to form a jazz (ish) duo.
I’m not talented enough to be snobby about this - all you need is a nice voice, a nice frock and a no-nonsense attitude. We’re not looking to hit the big time here - I could just use a bit of extra cash, and I know from previous experience that with the right person this can be a fun way to do it.
The plan is this. We pick out a few jazz standards, do them fairly conventionally and look elegant doing it. And then we pick out some other stuff people know and give it the same treatment - everything from Bowie to Elvis, from Fairground Attraction to Kate Bush, from Carole King to Vampire Weekend, sounds great if you play it as if it was a jazz standard. And then we take a shot at the functions market - corporate shindigs, weddings, Christmas parties, posh bars, whatever we can think of.
I’ve been in jazz/pop duos before, and I know how to sensitively accompany a good vocal performance. I play with feeling, and I’m capable of a mean blues/jazz/rock’n’roll solo if you don’t mind a few of the notes being elegantly approximate. I sing decent harmonies if they’re needed, and I have an acoustic bass guitar that I can drag out in case we want to do "Fever" or whatever. I’ve got all my own gear, access to a good small vocal PA, and one of those silver fake-1950s microphones so you can pretend to be Billie Holliday.
If this sounds like your cup of gin fizz, get in touch. You can email me (rob_colling at hotmail dot com), and if you have anything recorded feel free to link to your tunes or attach some MP3s.
